Known as the city of lakes, Udaipur is a beautiful city located amid the Aravalli Range in Rajasthan.  Founded in 1559 AD by Maharana Udai Singh, Travel+Leisure Magazine in 2009 has voted Udaipur as the world’s best city because of its history, culture, palaces, architecture and picturesque locations. Some of the places worth visiting when in Udaipur are as follows:

City Palace – The grandeur of Rajasthan is truly reflected from this palace. This palace belongs to the royal Mewar family. The architecture is exquisite and one gets surprised by the designs.  From the crystal gallery to the vintage car museum, the Dawat- I- Aam, Dawat- I- Khas, Maharani Palace, and the view of Lake Pichola from the palace is a thing to cherish and remember.

Lake Pichola: Everyone knows that the center for attraction to Udaipur is Lake Pichola. A 4km long made lake surrounded by gardens is a beautiful place to visit. One cannot miss out the boat ride on the lake, which starts from Rameshwaram Ghat of the City Palace. One can also visit the two islands that are named Jagniwas and Jagmandir.

Lake Palace: The magnificent palace built on Lake Pichola is a must watch. It has Aravalli Hills to its background and is the most romantic place of Rajasthan. It was built by Maharaja Jagat Singh II; the entire palace is crafted by marbles.

Fatehsagar Lake: Another attraction of Udaipur to die for. Situated to the north of Lake Pichola, it is connected with a canal. Nehru Park is the most beautiful island situated on this lake. Children love to visit this place as it has a zoo.

Saheliyon ki Bari: It was made by Maharana Bhopal Singh. This special palace was made for the maidens, who accompanied the Princess of Udaipur. It was a place of recreation for all the royal ladies. The main attraction here is the delightful lotus pool.

Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum: The folk art museum of Udaipur located in the Chetak circle. It displays the fine collections on Rajasthan culture. Those who are interested to know the history of this state must visit there.

Ahar: The royal cremation ghat of Udaipur. The queens of Mewar and Maharanas lie here peacefully. A place of about 300 tombs, history comes alive when you step into the gate of Ahar.

Ambrai Ghat: The most peaceful area of Udaipur. The view of City Palace and Lake Palace is ecstatic from this ghat. This is a delight for the photographers. Couples also love this place.

Shilpgram: If one is really interested to know about the culture, local songs and languages, then Shilpgram is the right place to pay a visit. It lies in the outskirts of the city. It showcases the exact rural culture and daily life of Rajasthan. Camel ride is another attraction here.

Moti Magri: The hilltop that has the famous Maharana Pratap memorial. Moti Mahal is also situated here where Maharana Udai Singh lived. One can also view the Japanese Rock Garden from here.

Kumbhalgarh Fort: Though it is almost a 2 hour drive away from Udaipur, travelers cannot afford to miss it. It was built by Rana Kumbha about whom we have all read. Haldi Ghati, the famous battle place is also situated here.
