A brief YouTube search will make it clear how many accidents have been caught on Dash Cam. But far from a source of entertainment, the Dash Cam evidence of such an accident can be vital to any compensation claim, and protecting your no claims bonus after an accident that was not your fault.
In the wake of a car crash, extra stress can be added by the need to go through complex legal procedures to prove that you were not at fault.
When relying on nothing but witness testimony, which can often only be that of you and the other driver or drivers in the crash, it is difficult to ensure that the ruling will be in your favour, even if the accident was due to the reckless actions of another driver.
One of the most useful tools when proving fault after a car crash is fitting a Dash Cam. Dash Cams are increasing in popularity, and there are many videos on YouTube that show the horrifying accident which can occur on the roads.
A YouTube search will show many videos and compilations of terrifying car crashes that have been caught on Dash Cam, in many of these cases, the Dash Cam has been used as vital evidence to prove who was to blame.
In this video, “Car Accident on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles caught on Dashcam” uploaded by Break Clips, a car clips the back of another vehicle while attempting a dangerous manoeuvre across lanes. The Dash Cam footage proves without doubt who is to blame, and the registration plates of all vehicles involved. It is fair to say that this accident could have been much worse:

In this clip from Raw Leak, entitled “This is why fasten[sic] your seatbelt is important”, a similar accident has far more horrifying consequences. The white car does not see the vehicle in its blind spot, and pulls across lanes, causing the dark coloured car to lose control and spin off the road, while contact with the white car causes it to flip, a passenger in the white car miraculously avoids being hit by the car fitted with a Dash Cam as they are thrown from the vehicle:

This footage will help to attribute blame, and will prove the quick reactions of the driver of the car with the Dash Cam, saved somebody’s life.
It is not always accidents with other cars that are caught on Dash Cam. This video, “Mountain Collapses – Giant boulder almosts[sic] crushes car”, uploaded by GlobalLeaks News, you see how close the driver in front was to being crushed by a falling boulder during a freak landslide:

Being involved in a car accident is not only terrifying, it can also be costly. In order to protect your no claims bonus, and receive the compensation you are legally entitled to when you suffer injuries due to the actions of another driver, purchasing a Dash Cam is vital.
The peace of mind you receive from knowing that you will always have evidence to prove your innocence in the event of a car crash cannot be overestimated.
It is no surprise that Dash Cams are gaining immense popularity amongst drivers throughout the world, and the knowledge that other drivers are likely to have Dash Cams, makes people more likely to be careful.
Of course, it is not always accidents that are caught on Dash Cam, as shown in this viral video from the Dover Police:
